NoMAD, Nomad (Non Metropolitan Areas Data) 2000-2001
Concept: According to Susan Sontag "voyeurism" is inherent in the photographic act. The same stands for the video act: it reveals a voyeuristic-nomadic attitude; The "fluidity" of sight and landscape. The videocamera here is in the position of the "voyeur", whereas the recording stands for the nomadic condition of the sight. Video is treated here as an architectural tool, as architecture in itself. NoMAD is a visual research and a registration of transformation of the landscape of peripheral areas in Greece. It is a voyage of architectural selfkowledge as well as a psychogeographic wandering.
The main purpose of NoMAD is to identify and to examine the transformation of the contemporary city in Greece, starting with its limits.
It is at the edges of the cities and at the provincial areas - and not in finalized the high-density centers- where we have conditions of instability and transition. So in this research a very important question is to register the limits of the city, where the landscape is being actually "transformed".NoMAD is a visual research and a registration of transformation of the landscape of peripheral areas in Greece. It is a voyage of architectural selfkowledge as well as a psychogeographic wandering.
Traces of appropriation of the landscape, "non-important" constructions and settlements for moving population where temporary activities are taking place are in central to this video. As well as the relations between the technological infrastructures (bridges, roads, gas stations, warehouses, temporary units, factories, silos e.t.c) and the landscape.
