Fundraiser to Benefit Libraries


Kevin Gaughan The Librarians Association of the Buffalo and Erie County Public Library invites all library users, taxpayers, and voters to a presentation by one of Buffalo's foremost civic activists on how local government reorganization will benefit public libraries. The proceeds will benefit the campaign to save Erie County's public libraries from devastating budget cuts.

On Tuesday, November 23, 2004, Kevin P. Gaughan will present a talk, "Buffalo Books: How A New Government Can Sustain Our Libraries," at Ulrich's Tavern, 674 Ellicott Street in Buffalo. At 7:00, Mr Gaughan will present his vision for healthy libraries and accept questions from the audience. The doors open at 6:30 pm with finger foods and a cash bar. Suggested minimum donation is $20 per person.

Kevin Gaughan is a local civic leader and nationally known regionalism expert. He is the founder of "Buffalo Conversation," a program by which citizens can participate in local public policy decision making. His book, At First Light: Strengthening Buffalo Niagara in the New Century, was published last year by Canisius College Press. Mr. Gaughan is a graduate of Harvard University, Georgetown University Law School, and he studied international relations at The London School of Economics.

The Librarians Association, founded in 1968, is the bargaining unit representing over 150 professional librarians employed by the Buffalo and Erie County Public Library and is an affiliate of the New York State United Teachers.
